When looking for an inexpensive option for bass guitars, many start with the Dean acoustic electric bass for good reason. The overall quality, sound, and playability are very good for the price.

This line of bass guitars comes complete with a mahogany body and a select spruce top. The neck is also of mahogany with a rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlay. It has die cast tuners and a rosewood bridge. This bass also comes complete with its own onboard preamp electronics.

The playability is pretty good compared to more expensive guitars, although some smaller bass players may not like it as much. The Dean acoustic bass line has a pretty deep and large body which may be more suitable for musicians with longer arms. The fret is a little thinner, though, to accommodate for easy play. Some bass players may complain that the strings sit too low to the fret board causing a little bit of a buzzing sound when a string is struck too hard, but this is an easy fix. It can usually be adjusted on guitars by a nut right inside the sound hole at the end of the neck. If a musician does not know how to do this, it is an inexpensive fix at any guitar shop.

The sound of these bass guitars is very comparable to more expensive guitars. Many consumers are very pleased with the beautiful acoustic sound, and it is surprisingly loud for an acoustic bass. Many bass players love the sound of the bass when it is being recorded or performed on with a microphone. It is said to improve and preserve the acoustic sound, but the internal electric components do not deliver such satisfaction. Bass players are said to be somewhat dissatisfied with the onboard electric components of this instrument, saying that they do not clearly represent the beautiful acoustic sound of the guitar.

Another gripe about some guitars in this line would be the fact that the guitar does not have a strap nut on the back of the guitar, so the person playing the guitar has to tie the strap to the headboard. Some also say they wish the finish was a little more glossy, but that is all a matter of opinion.

Dean acoustic bass guitars are available at almost every large music shop, and they are a favorite for beginners. Many advanced players own them as well as they are good for acoustic jam sessions, and for any other use where they may not be able to amplify the sound of their bass. The price is pretty low compared to other bass guitars. They usually stay under the $200.00 mark. A five-string acoustic-electric can be purchased for the low price of about $300.00.

There is not much of a variety of finishes available for this guitar. Most can only be found in a natural wood or black finish.

Whether looking for a new bass guitar to add to the arsenal, or looking for their first bass guitar, bass players should be sure to browse through the Dean section at their local music shop. Their beautiful acoustic sound and playability make this instrument a spectacular value.

Founded in 1833, the C.F. Martin & Company has been dedicated to providing its customers with quality acoustic guitars and basses. Throughout this time, Martin instruments have been completely acoustic, maintaining a traditional style and build. In the modern age of music, amplification is often needed to play to larger audiences, on top of being heard among fellow musicians. While electric guitars can produce louder music and sound, there’s a great deal of people who enjoy the traditional sound of an acoustic guitar. Since there are also some musicians who don’t enjoy playing their guitars right in front of the microphone, acoustic electric guitars were made. This way, acoustic guitar players could enjoy the same sound, but have the convenience and loudness found on an electric guitar with an amp. Due to this growing demand, the Martin Company teamed up with Fishman to create the Martin Acoustic Electric guitar.

The guitar model being covered in this article is the OMC-Aura, offered at around $3400. However, the list price is worth it; the OMC does not only produce great sound, but is also aesthetically pleasing. Complete with a variety of inlays along the hexagon-outlined fingerboard and bridge, the OMC-Aura provides the guitarist with a unique yet traditional style. The headstock has mother-of-pearl scripting work, and ebony end pins finished with dots comprised of abalone pearls. The Nitrocellulose gloss finish and rosewood body pulls the entire guitar together to make a stunning and memorable first impression.

Many users of the Aura have had great experiences with it’s performing abilities. The guitar itself is OOO-sized (meant for an auditorium), and is complete with fourteen frets. The guitar itself, even when hooked up to a microphone, sounds like any other acoustic guitar: complete with an incredibly rich sound, despite electronic amplification.

One common problem with most acoustic electric guitars is that they won’t give a solid, rich sound. Instead, many players have mentioned that some sound incredibly “loose” in sound, completely devoid of solidity. However, the Aura has a great, sonically focused sound; while the guitar is braced, it’s complete with plenty of internal support.

The Fishman-Aura electronics package on the guitar are complete with features you would expect to find on other Martin electric acoustic guitars. While there are plenty of new features for the Martin-oriented musician to discover, there are plenty of familiar features, such as an extremely accurate in-guitar tuning device and volume control. The tuner itself is complete with LED lighting to ensure your guitar is accurately tuned.

Other features on the OMC-Aura is a microphone selection feature, which makes it so that your guitar is compatible with the microphone you’re using. Along with this, the instrument is complete with a blend fader and a pickup system.

However, some downsides include an occasionally “closed-microphone” sound quality, as well as not being able to save certain “modes” on your guitar (such as microphone selection). However, there are many features on the guitar which can overcome most of these obstacles.

So in conclusion, the Martin acoustic electric guitar is a fantastic instrument suitable for the most professional and picky guitarists. While it may have a higher price tag than most, it’s high quality materials and sound make every penny worth it!

For those studying musical instrument history, or those who just are fanatics about anything dealing with music, you may be wonder: What is an acoustic electronic bass? There are many instruments in the genres of rock, jazz and punk, and each of these instruments create a different sound for bands and individuals to heal them create a sound that is pleasing and unique to the ear. An acoustic electric bass guitar plays its own special role in the music world, and is stringed instrument played primarily with the fingers and thumb. Its appearance resembles a electric guitar with a longer body and neck. The difference is the sound produced, which is actually a similar pitch one octave lower then those instruments with four strings.

Dating all the way back to the 1950′s, the electric bass guitar has gained popularity and become a replacement for the double bass in popular music. This instrument is widely used to chord together the rhythm section of songs and offers the chance for beautiful and melodic basslines performed by bass guitarists. The job of the bass guitarist is to anchor the framework of the song and lay down a constant and appealing beat for listeners. While the bass guitar is most commonly associated with rock, it is also commonly found in pop, ska, reggae, punk, country, blues, metal, jazz, and Latin music. It can be used in combination with other instruments to create a put together sound, or as a soloing instrument in certain genres.

The acoustic electric bass was invented in the 1930′s by Paul Tutmarc and has since evolved into an integral tool in the music business. The Electric Bass Fiddle was the first design and was later developed into a guitar form for easier handling and transporting. In 1947, Tutmarc’s son began marketing the invention, however, at the time they were not extremely desirable and the marketing was a failure.

Acoustic electric bass guitars did not reach high acclaim until the 1950′s when Leo Fender mass produced the first electric bass. The Fender Precision Bass became the industry standard and was copied by many instrument manufacturers in the following years. With the popularity of the Precision, came evolution which led to the Fender Jazz Bass in 1960. This bass was meant to accompany the use of the Jazzmaster guitar to get the rhythm and bass Jazz music is world-famous for.

Most of the bass bodies are constructed of wood, however there are a select few made of other materials including graphite. Woods will vary based on the use of the bass and include: maple, rosewood, mahogany, maple, ash and ebony. The standard design of an electric bass has four strings tuned for chords E, A, D, and G. The tuning is standard in all bass guitars and are one octave lower than the lower four strings on a six-string guitar instrument. Most of the guitars use magnetic pickups to produce small variations in the threading coils of the bass.

Bass players can play sitting or standing depending on their style and skill. With techniques including plucking, slap and pop, and picking, the bass has evolved to become a very great tool in the music industry today. You can see anyone from Motown to popular music bands using the bass today. The acoustic electric bass has been around for nearly eighty years and has taken its seat as a beloved musical instrument.

Bass guitar is almost the same as an electric guitar in its shape and design except that it has a slightly larger body, a longer scale with four to six strings adjusted and tuned to play the pitch similar to double bass. They happen to match the electric guitar pitch of the four lower strings by one octave lesser than the electric guitar pitch.

Electric bass guitars have been widely used in the place of other older versions of guitars since 1950s, wherein the guitars are connected to amplifiers and speaker for live performances. Such type of bass are called acoustic electric bass. Bass guitarists generally manage the harmonic framework of a musical performance and lay down the beat. The types and style of bass lines played varies from one style of music to another.

Different methods of playing notes in a guitar are plucking, popping, tapping, thumping or slapping. Some of the different styles of music where guitars are used intensely as an accompaniment are rock, pop, metal, jazz, country, blues, reggae etc. However in few other styles such as Funk, Latin, Fusion, some rock and heavy metal, bass electric guitars are used as solo instruments in the lead.

Many guitarists play the instruments with their left hand. In a left handed acoustic electric bass, the string setup is different from that of normal right handed guitar. The strings are normally placed in an inverted manner with the last string on the top of the bridge and the fret remaining the same. Though it takes a while to get used to this, the musicians take no time in getting the feel of it and learn to play naturally. There are quite a few cases of left handed guitarist playing right handed bass while few others are known to be able to play both right and left handed bass.

Bass electric guitars are made most often with wood. Different varieties of wood is used for the body, neck and fret board separately .While bodies are made using wood types such as alder, mahogany, ash, maple wood and Mahogany is popularly used for necks and ebony and maple for fret boards. Besides wood many other items such as lacquer, oil and wax are used in the manufacturing.

One of the variations in guitar designs is the guitar with fret and without. While on a fretted guitar, the frets are used to create semitone divisions, in a fretless bass the string is pressed down into the wood of the fingerboard as in the case of double bass and the player uses this to play different variations of glissando, vibrato, just intonation and quarter tones besides other micro tonal variations.

Electric bass guitars use the vibrations of the strings within the magnetic field of magnet pickups to produce small electrical voltage in the coils of pickup, from which the electrical signals are picked up, amplified and played aloud through amplifier and speakers. Innovation has led to active electronics being deployed with bass where in battery powered booster controls provide control over bass and treble frequencies and either boost them or cut them as required. There are many more varieties of pickups such as Jazz pickup, Precision pickup, Dual Coil pickup etc. There are also non magnetic pickups available in many variations.

There are many styles of playing bass and are popularly referred to as Playing techniques. While majority musicians stand and play, a few also prefer to sit down and play the bass. Some of the popular playing techniques are Plucking, Picking, Slap and Pop, Fretting, Two handed tapping etc.
